🌱 Another Sepulveda Blvd Water Main Break + Dave Chappelle’s Unhappy

Happy Tuesday, Los Angeles; today is World Lupus Day, which has been observed by lupus organizations around the globe since 2004! Let’s get this day started off right. These are the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

Another Monday, another water main break on Sepulveda. Also, DA George gascon‘s decision doesn’t make Dave chappelle happy. Finally, some 2,000 Cedars-Sinai Medical Center employees are on strike.

First, today’s weather:

Breezy in the afternoon. High: 68 Low: 50.

Poll:
Who should be the next Los Angeles Mayor? Please share your thoughts! (As of today, Rick Caruso leads the pack with 51.8% of your votes, and Karen Bass is in second place with 28.1%. Gina Viola is in third with 7.1%, and kevin de leon comes in fourth with 4.7%. John Buscaino, Mike Feuerand John Jackson have 1.2% each!)

Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. If you were trying to head north on Sepulveda Boulevard on Monday, you had to find alternative routes, such as 92nd. The problem was a water main break. “This is the second such instance in less than a week’s time, after a water main break closed the southbound lanes from last Monday morning through Tuesday night.” (CBS)
  2. Dave Chappelle isn’t happy with LA County’s DA George Gascon. The latter declined to charge the comedian’s 23-year-old on-stage attacker with a felony. “Entertainers in LA need to know this is a justice system that will protect them. There is no question here that when someone is violently assaulted by another in possession of a deadly weapon that it should be charged as a felony,” Chappelle’s attorney explained on Sunday. (Fox)
  3. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center employees walked off the job on Monday, citing “unfair labor practices as well as employee and patient safety concerns, short-staffing, and low wages.” Behind the scenes, the union bargaining on behalf of “some 2,000 certified nursing assistants, surgical technicians, sterile processing technicians, transporters, environmental service workers, plant operation workers, and food service technicians” has attempted to negotiate a contract since March 21. (Patch)
  4. We learned on Monday that working at Jointly eats with “a $150 monthly allowance specifically for cannabis.” As employees have a difficult time committing to their employers and leaving the work relationships in droves, Jointly has thought outside the box. (Spectrum News 1)
  5. Paul Krekorian reminds you that it is time to apply for becoming an election worker. He said Monday that “Election Workers play an essential role in elections and in our democracy. They are trusted community members who assist the in-person voting experience throughout Los Angeles County.” You could earn up to $1,180! (Paul Krekorian)
